Make the Wisconsin Connection: Crave Brothers Petit Frère® and Cranberries

Waterloo, Wisconsin, October 10, 2012— Not only is Wisconsin the home of Crave Brothers Farmstead Classics cheeses, it’s also the leading cranberry-producing state in the United States. In fact, Wisconsin is credited with producing more than half the country’s cranberries. Why not celebrate during this season of harvesting fresh cranberries—from mid-September through October—by pairing cranberries with Petit Frère®, an award-winning artisan cheese from Wisconsin? The contrasting colors and flavors create a simple, seasonal appetizer. The 8-ounce soft-ripened cheese, sold in a small wooden box, is just the right size for regionally inspired party menus.

The earthy, fruity flavors of Petit Frère rind-washed European-style cheese are a natural complement for fresh fruits. Traditionally, cheeses such as creamy semi-soft Petit Frère are served sliced, with a sweet condiment like honey, fruit preserves or cranberry sauce. Discover the marriage of Wisconsin flavors for yourself, by pairing Crave Brothers Petit Frère and freshly made cranberry sauce.  All it takes is a few minutes and a few ingredients to make classic cranberry sauce:  For one pound of fresh cranberries, bring two cups of water and two cups of sugar to a boil.  Add cranberries and freshly grated zest from one lemon or one orange. Simmer until the cranberry skins pop, about five minutes. The recipe yields four cups of cranberry sauce. Spoon slightly warm or chilled cranberry sauce over slices of Petit Frère. If desired, serve with walnuts and crackers, or a thinly sliced baguette.

The Crave Brothers Farmstead Classics family of award winning artisan cheeses, including Crave Brothers Petit Frère, is produced by using 100% green power and practicing water conservation and recycling. Look for the Crave Brothers package logo— a dairy cow inside a green circle with the words “Produced With Renewable Energy.” The logo serves as a reminder of the Crave Brothers commitment to sustainability on its farm and in its farmstead cheese factory.
