Mom's Barbecued Spareribs

Ingredients:

  • 3 to 4 pounds country-style pork spareribs
  • 1 lemon, sliced with peel on
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 dashes tabasco sauce
  • 2 cups water

Directions: Preheat oven to 450° F.  In a shallow roasting pan, place ribs, meaty side up.  Place a slice of unpeeled lemon and a slice of onion on each rib.  Place in oven and roast at 450° F for 30 minutes.  In a small saucepan, combine remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.  Simmer 2 to 3 minutes and pour over ribs.  Continue baking ribs at 350° F until very tender, approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours.  Baste ribs with sauce in pan every 15 minutes.

 

Yield:  4-5 servings
