What makes your farm different from others?

  • We are proud of our sustainable story. We are naturally taking care of the land by recycling the cows' waste and whey from the cheese factory to use as a fertilizer for: our crops, electricity for the community, cow bedding and potting soil.

How long do your cows live and what do they eat?

  • With our individual cow care, our cows typically live from 5-9 years. The cows' ration consist of a balanced diet of hay, corn, and other grains. The Crave Brothers work very closely with a dairy nutrionist that creates the "special recipe" for their dairy cattle. 

Are your cows grass-fed?

  • Our cows are housed in open air, free range barns that are designed for cow comfort. They have access to pasture depending on the weather from April to November.

How often do yours cows get milked?

  • We milk our cows three times a day. 

When does a cow have a calf?

  • Cows have thier first calf when they are 2 years old. At that point they begin producing milk. Cows have a calf once a year in order to continuing producing milk. 

How far is the milk transported to te cheese factory?

  • Our milk is pumped under the road through a 320-foot stainless steel pipe.

What does "Farmstead" mean?

  • Farmstead means taking our own farm fresh milk and handcrafting it into cheese, right on the farm. Our fresh high quality milk makes high quality award winning cheeses.

How much energy does the methane digester produce?

  • The methane digester on Crave Brothers Farm produces enough electricity to power the farm, the cheese factory, and over 300 area homes. Additionally, recycled manure fiber is a sustainable sourceof bedding to keep cows clean, and allow them to produce high quality milk.
